Driver charged after hitting RIPTA bus stop shelter

A 47-year-old man was arrested Monday after the SUV he was driving crashed into a RIPTA bus stop shelter in Smithfield.

Police said Romualdo Dipippo of Scituate was charged with DWI and refusal to submit to a chemical test.

The crash happened at High Street and Waterman Avenue around 5:15 p.m.

The shelter and the SUV were heavily damaged.

Dipippo was released with a summons to appear in court.

No one was injured.
