The 24-year-old Cranston father accused of violently shaking and fatally injuring his infant son is set to appear in district court Friday for a bail hearing.
Elias Romero was charged back in July with murder after his three month-old son Giovanni Pena Romero died in the hospital after sustaining acute abusive head trauma.
The injury is better known as shaken baby syndrome.
Police say Romero was watching
Giovanni along with another sibling when the baby sustained the injuries.
Romero did not call 9-1-1 when Giovanni stopped breathing, instead calling his mother who reached out to Giovanni’s mother.
The baby died several days later at the hospital.
Authorities say that if a baby can’t be calmed and is creating a stressful situation, to place the child in a safe place and walk away, take a deep breath and call somebody for assistance.
