Rhode Island State Police said a tractor-trailer driver was killed Thursday afternoon in a crash on Interstate 95 in Hopkinton.
Police said the trucker tried to avoid a car changing into his lane. The trucker swerved to the right, struck a guardrail, continued across the ramp for exit 1, and crashed into a tree head-on.
The trucker was flown by helicopter to Rhode Island Hospital, where he died. The trucker’s name was not immediately released.
Police said the driver of the car attempting to change lanes stopped and called for help.
All lanes of I-95 south at exit 1 were closed for about two hours while the truck was removed.
Rhode Island State Police asked anyone who witnessed the crash to call them at 401-444-1068.
